Nineteen scholarships for URV students05.04.2019
Fundación Repsol and the Social Council of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) in Tarragona have presented the 2018 – 2019 scholarships granted jointly by both entities to 19 young students.
The ceremony took place in the Training Centre auditorium at Repsol's Industrial Facility in Tarragona. It was attended by Àngels Chacón, Minister for Companies and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya; María José Figueras, Dean of the URV; António Calçada, vice-chairman of Fundación Repsol; Joan Pedrerol, chairman of the URV Social Council; and Josep Francesc Font, director of Repsol's Industrial Facility in Tarragona.
During the event, María José Figueras, António Calçada, and Joan Pedrerol took part in a round table looking back over the scholarships programme and showcasing Fundación Repsol and the URV Social Council's commitment to society.
In addition, illusionist and mind reader Jorge Luego gave a talk called “Illusion On”.
Josep Francesc Font presented the Repsol Tarragona Alumni initiative, which aims to establish a lasting relationship between the Industrial Facility and the students that receive the scholarships.
Finally, the ceremony was brought to a close by Àngels Chacón, Minister for Companies and Knowledge of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The aim of this scholarship programme is to work alongside the university to help secondary education students with a good academic record and high levels of motivation, but who are facing financial, social, or personal difficulties, to begin or continue their university studies.
Each year, five scholarships for a value of 5000 euros each are granted, and the existing grants from previous years are renewed, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the programme. The total granted this year amounts to 95000 euros.
This initiative is part of Fundación Repsol's university scholarship programme. In addition to the URV, Fundación Repsol also works with the Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the University of Castilla- La Mancha (UCLM). The aim is to support talent and help secondary students begin their studies at university.
