The prize was presented in an academic ceremony led by Guillermo Cisneros, rector of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM). In addition to the Fundación Repsol prize, other bachelor's and master's degree students who have completed their studies were recognised. Other awards, such as the ETSII medal and prizes for excellent academic performance from the Caja de Ingenieros and the Foundation for Industrial Innovation (F2I2), were also presented.

Through this Chair, Fundación Repsol helps drive innovation and research in future professionals. On top of this award, Fundación Repsol also offers grants to help students carry out their final master's projects. In the 2017 – 2018 academic year, four grants were awarded.
