EsadeGeo Webinars series: EU Policies (II) “The Green Deal Challenge: Achieving Carbon Neutral Transport”
The Repsol Foundation and EsadeGeo continue with their series of three digital meetings in English to go into depth about European regulation related with the energy transition. The second webinar will take place on April 26 at 4 p.m. under the title: “The Green Deal Challenge: Achieving Carbon Neutral Transport”
Transport, which represents approximately a quarter of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU, will play an important role in the EU's new 2030 emissions reduction target and its 2050 climate neutrality target. The Green Deal establishes that, to achieve climate neutrality, emissions from the transport sector must be reduced by 90% by 2050. In this sense, the European Commission recently presented its Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy which aims to put European transport on the road to the future.
To guarantee the reduction of road transport emissions, for example, it will be necessary to revise several policy tools. Some of them include the CO2 emission standards regulation for cars and vans with a possible separate revision for heavy-duty vehicles, as well as the renewable energy directive to support the large-scale deployment of sustainable low-carbon and renewable fuels.
The aim of this webinar is to examine the necessary legislative changes to decarbonize the transport sector in line with the 2030 and 2050 targets. The panel will also analyze the role of alternative synthetic and advanced fuels from renewable energy sources in the reduction of road, aviation, and maritime transport emissions.
The event, moderated by Ivan Marten, senior fellow in EsadeGeo, will also see Matthew Baldwin, Deputy Director-General at DG MOVE; Berta Cabello, Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Processes Leader at Repsol; Nicolae Scarlat, Scientific and Technical Support Officer, Renewables and Energy Efficiency Unit, Division of Energy, Transport, and Climate at Joint Research Center (TBC), and Jonas Strömberg, Sustainability Director for Buses and Coaches in Scania CV AB take part.
At the end of the session, there will be a question and answer session so that the audience can ask questions to the speakers.
